Sophie Mongeon, President of the Board of Directors of the Quebec Jockey Club, was proud to announce in the last few days, the appointment of Sylvain Descheneaux as a member of the Board of Directors.

Well known in the greater Sorel area, Mr. Descheneaux is an entrepreneur whose business successes are countless. President of Construction Sorel Limited, he will bring to the Board his expertise as a business person and of course, his involvement as a horse owner, both here and in Ontario.

His fields of interest are as diverse as the expertise of his companies. Construction Sorel is present in megaprojects such as the rehabilitation of the Beauharnois locks, the wind farm of the MRC Pierre de Saurel, in the renovation of the Île du Moine lighthouse as well as in residential construction.

In recent years, Construction Sorel, which celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2022, has become a major player in the construction industry in Quebec, ranking 12th with a business volume of 120MS according to the Constructo portal.

At the same time, he has always maintained a passion for horses. « I own a farm in St-Roch. It comes from a long way. My father, when I was young, had horses.  I was raised in it. So, when you see a CSL Stables racehorse appear on the papers, you should know that this horse is the property of Descheneaux.

Sylvain hopes to have a participant in the $200,000 Prix d’Été 2024. Indeed, in the last few months, he has acquired the horse Command, a son of Captaintreacherous, who set himself a record of 1.47.4 last year at Lexington. We will also remember that last year he was the main manager of the Brian-Paquet Invitationals for which the horsemen shared $120,000 in purse money.
